Background & Objectives:
The Groundwork North East & Cumbria Landscape team were instrumental in negotiating the development of the site for the bike track, submitting the plans and overseeing the management of all elements of the build.
The development included:
- Access improvements to the site via a cycleway with passing laybys and car park with all civil works undertaken by WL Straughan’s
- Two ‘Design and Build’ bike tracks (Pump Track and Jump Line & Push Up Track) designed and implemented by a specialist bike contractor, Back on Track

Impact
- The project fulfilled a much-needed resource for young people to exercise, develop skills and strength and socialise in a safe environment
- Since implementation, a group has formed – Alnwick Freeriders – to support new users joining the activity and continue development of the sport
- New wetland habitat created through channelling of surface water into a detention basin, with new hedgerow planting along boundaries of the site
