Groundwork is a federation of charities working nationally and locally to transform lives in the UK’s most disadvantaged communities. We work throughout the UK, with offices across the country. For over 30 years we’ve worked alongside communities and partners to create quality public open spaces for all and improve access to green space.

Groundwork’s Landscape Practice is unique. We specialise in community engagement and a truly collaborative design process. We know that this co-creation approach results in open spaces that are wholly embraced by the community. The sustainable design and management of open spaces is central to our ethos and design practice. We know that multi-functional open spaces can significantly reduce the harmful effects of the changing climate on communities and on the environment.

We specialise in projects that directly respond to the climate emergency.

We can mitigate the risk of flooding by implementing Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDs) in high risk areas and reduce the effect of heatwaves by creating green walls and roofs, which also help tackle air pollutions and increase biodiversity.

We are leading the way in mainstreaming these practices with cost effective climate resilient design solutions. We are recipients of the Landscape Institute’s College of Fellows’ Award for climate change adaptation, in recognition of our innovative programme of climate proofing social housing landscapes in Hammersmith & Fulham.
